> Languages > German Translation
There are no particular issues or difficulties with translations between German and English, either for translations into German from English, or translations into English from German.
German is spoken principally in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and whilst there are a large number of different dialects of spoken German, written German is largely uniform. Therefore except in rare cases a single German translation can be used in all three countries.
German Typesetting
German can be typeset as raw text in all major graphic design programs, and there are no particular difficulties involved in typesetting German, although typesetting in narrow text columns can be a challenge due to the many lengthy compound words in German. Hyphenation must of course follow German and not English rules.
Typesetting German involves the same font selection and layout considerations as apply for English artwork. Where we are working with an existing English graphic design file, the same fonts can almost always be used for the German translation.
