There are no particular issues or difficulties with translations between Italian and English, either for translations into Italian from English, or translations into English from Italian.

Italian is an official language in Italy and Switzerland, with large Italian speaking populations in several other countries. Whilst there are significant differences between the many dialects of spoken Italian, written Italian is standardized, with only minor regional variation in vocabulary. Therefore except in rare cases a single Italian translation can be used for all target markets.

Italian Typesetting

Italian can be typeset as raw text in all major graphic design programs, and there are no particular difficulties involved in typesetting Italian, only occasionally space issues as Italian translations can often be 10-15% longer than the original English text.

Typesetting Italian involves the same font selection and layout considerations as apply for English artwork. If we are working with an existing English graphic design file, the same fonts can almost always be used for the Italian translation. However hyphenation, if used, must of course follow Italian and not English rules.
