An experienced translator will translate an average of approximately
200– 250 words per hour depending on the nature of the
text. Perhaps 300 words per hour in exceptional cases. Then
allow checking and reviewing time (translators are trained to
put their final translation aside for at least a couple of hours
after completion and then come back and re-read it afresh, checking
simply for quality of expression).
Under normal circumstances, allow 2 days for short jobs of up to 1000 words in most languages, up to 5 working days for documents of up to 3,000 to 5,000 words, and progressively longer for larger jobs. Technically difficult jobs will take longer, and so too will multi-language jobs where we need to co-ordinate terminology, translation decisions and presentation across various languages.
Typesetting adds another process to any translation job and additional time needs to be allowed. Typesetting requirements can vary enormously, so we need to see the layout that’s required to be able to assess the time involved.
Remember, our quotes will always state our anticipated turnaround times.
If you have a job that is urgent, talk to us about it. If the time frame is realistic (i.e. possible!) we will generally fit these jobs in.
