Software localisation offers a special translation challenge,
especially the translation of strings. To be able to translate
strings correctly, the translators must not only have a good
understanding of the function and operation of the program but
also need to understand precisely what each individual string
means, how it is to be used, and what other strings it combines
with.
Put another way, if a translator makes an incorrect assumption
as to the meaning of a string or overlooks a problem in combining
two fields, something somewhere in the program won’t work
